When the narcissist lets someone go, it is usually because they think there is someone better, someone else who can offer them more than you can. For narcissists, the grass is always greener on the other side, as they are never content with what they have. They are always comparing themselves with others, and due to their entitlement, they assume they can have what others have or even something better. So, at the time, leaving you behind seemed like the best decision ever. Whether they got bored with you or thought they had taken all they could from you, discarding you for the more exciting possibilities that lay ahead seemed worth it.
Unfortunately, many narcissists don’t seem to realize that the perfect someone will always be out of their reach because that perfect someone only exists in their mind. Every time they think they have found “the one,” they eventually become very dissatisfied. In my article called “The Soulmate Trap,” I exposed how narcissists are always looking for “the one” and why they’ll never find them. However, once they let someone go in search of “the one” again, there are a few things they would prefer not to happen.
Firstly, they don’t want you to move on. And one of the first things that the narcissist does not want to happen is for the person they discarded to move on. The narcissist does not want their exes to fall in love again. They don’t want them to find happiness with someone else, especially before they do. The narcissist would prefer to beat them to the punch as confirmation that they made the right decision in discarding them.
