Narcissists are people who lack empathy and are unable to take responsibility for their actions in life. They’ll use your feelings and emotions against you, making you feel crazy and even gaslight you, all to get what they want. Narcissists can’t control you if you don’t let them. Here are 10 reasons why narcissists can never control you:
1. You know who you are and what you want.
Narcissists thrive on controlling their environment and everyone in it. One of the best ways to maintain control is to keep people from knowing themselves. Knowing who you are and what you want makes it harder for a narcissist to manipulate and control your life. If a narcissist tries to convince you that you’re worthless or untalented, recognizing these tactics for what they are won’t affect your life. If those things don’t matter to you, then they don’t have any power over how well your days go. You don’t need anyone to give you validation because you have confidence in yourself and what you want.
2. You have a strong sense of self-worth.
Narcissists are notorious for controlling their victims by making them feel like they don’t have a strong sense of self-worth and need to rely on the narcissist to feel better about themselves. But if you have a strong sense of self-worth, you know that you’re not defined by someone else’s opinion of you, and that’s something that narcissists are incapable of understanding. If they can’t control your worth, they can’t control who you are. A narcissist may try to tear down your self-esteem to get what they want from you, but if you are confident in who you are, it’ll be harder for them to manipulate your emotions. You don’t need validation from others when you have a strong sense of self-worth; you know what you’re capable of and trust yourself to make the right decisions.
