Number one, they are going to try to beat you down. Why? Because a narcissist cannot stand the fact that they can no longer dictate your life, influence your choices, or be the number one priority. They need you to put them on the pedestal, to put their needs, preferences, and urges above your own. When you take a stand for yourself, speak up, and refuse to tolerate their abuse, the narcissist is taken aback. They turn into a monstrous version of themselves, becoming wild, venomous, and attacking you physically, emotionally, or psychologically. This extreme reaction is an attempt to regain control.
Talking about this takes me back to my life experiences, especially the first time I stood up against my father. It was about my phone, and he wanted to take it away to exert control. I rebelled, and the result was physical abuse. However, that moment was empowering as it marked the first step towards regaining my independence.
Reaction 2:
Reaction number two, they go silent on you. Maybe you have the upper hand over the situation, and they have no other ways left to control you. They may see your financial independence or strength and realize they can’t deal with it. As a final attack, they resort to giving you the silent treatment. However, being fearless means you’re no longer afraid of their silence. You know it has been them, and your reaction is the right response to their abnormal behavior.
