This one really cuts deep for the narcissist because they want everyone around them to care about them and what they have going on in their lives. It is important for the narcissist to feel valued and relevant, even when they don’t deserve it. And whether you have good or bad feelings towards the narcissist, they are not bothered, as they just want you to feel something. So, you not caring means that there is no emotional investment, and the narcissist hates it when people disconnect from them on an emotional level. But when it comes to this statement, your actions have to be in line with what you say. And you have to mean what you say for it to have the greatest impact. 

But to conclude, telling the narcissist the truth about who they are can be really offensive to them. They have no issues with lying, cheating, stealing, manipulating, etc., but they do want to be told that is what they are doing. They do not want anyone to find issues with how they treat others or talk about others. They want all they do and say to go without any consequence or judgment. That is why it is important to get to the point where you just do not care about the narcissist.  No hate, no love, just indifference.
