Internal Control: Responsible people seek to control things from the inside out. They recognize the need for self-restraint, insight, and internal strength. In contrast, narcissists try to control things from the outside in, demanding that others act correctly and blaming external circumstances for their problems.

Honesty About Themselves: Responsible individuals are openly honest about their issues. For example, if they struggle with anger, they acknowledge it and seek to improve. Narcissists, however, often refuse to take responsibility for their anger, insecurity, or defensiveness, deflecting blame instead.

Well-Developed Value System: Responsible individuals have a moral code. For example, if they struggle with anger, their values guide them to manage it while treating others with respect. Narcissists, however, operate on superficial rules without understanding the underlying reasons for their behavior.

Acceptance of Guilt and Shame: Responsible individuals accept guilt and shame when necessary as a restorative emotion that encourages personal growth. Narcissists, however, use guilt and shame as weapons against others.

Ongoing Learning and Insight: Responsible people view life as an ongoing growth process, learning from experiences and refining their understanding. Narcissists, however, rarely learn and adjust; instead, they tend to impose their views on others.
