The Biblical Reason Narcissists Can’t Stop Lying (Exposed)
This next part isn’t easy to hear, but it’s the truth. Romans 1:24 says that God gave them over. That’s not wrath like lightning and thunder; that’s something far more sobering. That’s God stepping back and saying, “If you really want this lie more than my light, I won’t stop you.” This is divine abandonment—not because God doesn’t care, but because love won’t force itself where it’s not welcome.
Have you ever seen a truck sink into deep mud? First, it’s just a soft tire track. But go back and forth on that road enough times, and those ruts get deep. Soon, you can’t even turn the wheel; you’re locked in. That’s what happens to the narcissist. The more they practice deception, the more stuck they become until the road back to truth seems unreachable. By this stage, the narcissist isn’t just lying; they are the lie. Their identity is wrapped up in it. Pull one thread, and the whole thing unravels. Their entire sense of self is so fragile, so hollow, that admitting the truth feels like death. So they don’t. They won’t. They shut out conviction, silence the Holy Spirit, and build a house of mirrors, calling it a palace. And God grieves, but just lets them live in what they’ve chosen.
What’s left? Emotional isolation. Wisdom turns to dust, and spiritual hearing grows silent. But listen closely now, because this is important: that doesn’t mean all hope is lost. No, Scripture never says that. But it does say that the longer you walk away from the light, the harder it is to find the path home.
And that’s why you—the one who’s been hurt, the one who’s doubted your own sanity—need to know something right now: your healing doesn’t come from dragging the narcissist into the truth. It comes from standing in it yourself. Truth is your freedom. You don’t have to win the argument; you don’t have to make them see; you don’t have to carry the burden of their blindness. You just have to anchor yourself in what God has already shown you.
Here’s how: trust your discernment, that still small voice inside you. That’s not paranoia; that’s wisdom. That’s the Spirit of God keeping your feet on solid ground. Write things down, keep the emails, save the screenshots—not out of bitterness, but to remind yourself what’s real when the fog rolls in. Stay rooted in the Word. Let Scripture wash the confusion out of your mind. God’s voice will never gaslight you; His truth is steady, unchanging, pure.
Let me close with this, friend: do narcissists believe their own lies? Not at first, but over time, they become them. And that’s why freedom won’t come by trying to untangle someone else’s deception. It comes when you stop living inside it. So walk in the truth. Let the light in, because truth doesn’t just set you free; it keeps you free.
