As the weather turns crisp and cool, it’s the perfect time to indulge in some comforting and hearty meals. One of my all-time favorites is the easy slow cooker steak pie, which not only warms you up but also delights your taste buds! This pie is a real crowd-pleaser, making it ideal for gatherings, especially as we approach Halloween. 🍂🥧

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

This slow cooker steak pie is incredibly simple to prepare, allowing you to spend more time enjoying your gatherings and less time in the kitchen. The slow cooking process ensures that the steak becomes tender and flavorful, creating a cozy dish that everyone will love. Plus, you can get creative with your Halloween decorations and serve this pie alongside some spooky snacks for a fun and festive atmosphere! 🎃✨

Ingredients

  • For the Filling:
    • 1 kg beef chuck or stewing steak, cut into cubes
    • 2 tablespoons olive oil
    • 1 large onion, diced
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 2 carrots, sliced
    • 250 ml beef broth
    • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
    • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
    • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 1 cup frozen peas
  • For the Pie:
    • 1 sheet of ready-made puff pastry
    • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling:
    • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and garlic, sautéing until softened.
    • Add the beef cubes to the skillet, browning them on all sides. Transfer the beef and onion mixture to the slow cooker.
  2. Add Vegetables and Seasoning:
    • Add the sliced carrots, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, dried thyme, salt, and pepper to the slow cooker. Stir well to combine.
    • Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the beef is tender.
  3. Finish the Filling:
    • Once the cooking time is up, stir in the frozen peas. Let the mixture cool slightly while you prepare the pastry.
  4. Assemble the Pie:
    • Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
    • Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut out a circle large enough to cover your pie dish.
    • Spoon the steak filling into the pie dish and top with the puff pastry, sealing the edges. Make a few slits in the pastry to allow steam to escape.
    • Brush the top with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  5. Bake the Pie:
    • Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and flaky.
  6. Serve:
    • Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve it warm, ideally with some ghoulish garlic bread or a side of mac and cheese bites for a fun Halloween feast! 👻🧀
