They may even have someone checking up on you for them, or they may do it themselves. Narcissists might also create dummy social media accounts just to test you. They may even message you through these accounts and flirt with you to see if you are loyal to them, which is an unacceptable move in a relationship. When you take their bait, narcissists will confront you and lash out in anger, unaware of what you did wrong. It doesn’t matter if you didn’t flirt back at them; narcissists will still make a big deal out of it. Imagine what they would do if someone else messages and flirts with you. Now, ask yourself if you can handle this toxic relationship with them.
Number four, tracking devices:
If your narcissistic partner has access to your car or phone, they could use these devices to track where you go and what you do. This is especially true if they are worried about cheating or want to ensure that you aren’t seeing someone else without their knowledge. But for narcissists, it also serves as a way to feed their need for control. They want to know where you are at all times and may even use this information against you. Narcissists might also use it to control your behavior. For example, if they don’t want you to spend time with certain people, they might call or text while you’re with someone else just to let you know they can see what’s happening. This is a form of threat and intimidation. Their goal might be to make you feel bad for spending time with a friend or family member. Narcissists will not care about your feelings, even if you cry because that might be their goal in the first place – to make you feel worthless without them.
Number five, online searches:
Narcissists often search the internet for information about their partner, including social media accounts and previous relationships. They may do this to ensure that you aren’t hiding anything from them, such as an ex-partner or child, or they may look for evidence that you are cheating. The way narcissists search for information about their partners can be a sign of control and manipulation. They may also use this knowledge to gain the upper hand in arguments. For example, they might find out that you don’t like a particular food or activity and then use this knowledge against you later on. Narcissists may also look for information about you on social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. They may read through your posts or check out your profile picture to better understand who you are, which can be another sign of control and manipulation. Narcissists often use this knowledge to claim that they knew something about you all along.
