But why?
Because they want to reopen the wound they created. They want to make you feel helpless again. That image isn’t just a memory—it’s a weapon. A psychological anchor.
It shows up in your feed when you’ve been trying to move on, hijacking your nervous system before your brain even registers what’s happening. Suddenly, you’re shaking, crying, overwhelmed by grief. Before you know it, you’re back in their messages, justifying yourself, explaining, defending.
Make no mistake—this isn’t sentimentality. It’s emotional sabotage, dressed as longing.
3. They Subtly—or Viciously—Edit Your Face
This one is dark. Some narcissists go as far as manipulating your facial features in photos.
Sometimes, it’s subtle—they’ll smooth out your skin to the point where you look unrecognizable. Other times, it’s deliberate and cruel—they distort your face just enough to make you look tired, dull, or weak.
They may claim it’s just a filter or bad lighting, but there’s always an agenda behind it. If you’re a woman, they might erase your curves, exaggerate them, or darken your under-eyes to make you look older. If you’re a man, they might crop your frame to make you seem smaller or adjust shadows to make you look sinister or frail.
