Do you believe that a narcissist can apologize? Do you think they can sincerely feel sorry for how they made you think? Do you believe they can make up for their mistakes and change for the better? If yes, narcissists can make you feel worse when you thought they could.
As you can see, there are two processes involved before someone can even consider apologizing. First, you must admit to yourself that you are vulnerable and capable of making a mistake. Second, you need to acknowledge that something is wrong and that you played a part in it. You can only apologize after that, admitting you made a mistake and accepting some responsibility for it. This requires looking inward and being vulnerable, while also understanding that your actions impact others.
Narcissists are typically incapable of feeling regret; it’s simply not in their nature. Because of their selfish tendencies and inflated ego, they can’t comprehend or express how others feel. If you’ve ever known a narcissist, you’ve probably noticed that they never take responsibility for their actions. Someone else has always done something wrong or has encouraged them to behave poorly. They absolve themselves of guilt because they never accept it.
You may get confused about how they apologize, but remember that narcissists often refuse to give genuine apologies. You might experience mock apologies that are insubstantial, leaving you feeling underwhelmed and confused.
